Kannawidan Insight

Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province located in the northern part of Luzon. It is a province rich in culture that represents the ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage. To show and share their treasures to the whole world, the locals conceived a festival that highlights these cultural traditions and they called it the "Kannadiwan Festival". It is a celebration that lasts from the last week of January up to the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the commemoration of the foundation day of the province.

For me, the Kannawidan gives fun to the whole province of Ilocos Sur. Because there are lots of activities and competitions that are held during this festival. These activities are: boodle fight, a ritual followed by the presentation of Ilocano traditions spiced with sports events, the Miss Saniata 2016, Mass and procession at the Saint Paul Cathedral, fireworks display, and the grand finals of the Siglat Ilocandia (search for talented Ilocanos), motor show, concerts, search for the biggest agriculture products and livestock, quiz bee, poetry writing, cook fest, fashion show and comedy night, and many more. These are held at Vigan City as it is the center City of Ilocos Sur. But even though Vigan is too far away for some of the Ilokano's they still make a way in order to witness the different happenings in celebrating the said festival. Aside from this, during the different shows, there are different artists who makes the celebration happier and memorable. And also, if you want to have a walk you can enter the built market (i don't know what it's called) wherein there are lots of things you can see inside. There are the different products of each town of Ilocos Sur, different decorations inside the house, different kinds of food, and many more. Near the stage, there's also a carnival for the children to enjoy.

What about you? Did you enjoy the celebration of Kannawidan Festival? Is it memorable to you? What have you experienced during the said festival? Well, I know you had a lot of fun. Because me? I can say that it's the best festival ever.
